Party $400 short - Should I throw this away ?
I was raising about half my hands to double the BB, and frequently making a "continuation" bet on the flop. This hand occured shortly after the opponent sat down, so no read yet.
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 max, 5 handed) converter SB ($396) BB ($178) UTG ($397.5) Hero ($382.6) Button ($75.8) Preflop: Hero is MP with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, Hero raises to $8, 1 fold, SB calls $6, BB calls $4. Re: Party $400 short - Should I throw this away ?
fold. no read and its not worth it. you've got a weak kicker (if all he has is the other jack), and I bet he filled up w/ that river.

You're only beating a bluff unless you think SB would call raises with J6, J5, J4 or J2.
Unless you've seen him make big bluffs in the past, fold. |

Re: Party $400 short - Should I throw this away ?
Well, the reason I posted was in response to Paluka's post. Sometimes these guys are making moves, and you have to call with less than the nuts.
Anyway, I called. He had 9T and was semi-bluffing the OESD. My top-trips-weak-kicker held up. |

Re: Party $400 short - Should I throw this away ?
How can you really consider folding here? It's an obvious weak re-raise representing the jack very badly but knowing that he can't really be called unless the poster does have a jack, and even then he's got outs.
It's much more likely that if he does have the other jack, especially with a high kicker, he just flat calls again or will make a smaller raise. It's just about conceivable he could actually have flopped a set and turned the boat, and is now hoping that he is up against trips and will get called because his raise all-in looks so weak. Rev |

Re: Party $400 short - Should I throw this away ?
Yes, that was my reasoning. It was way too big of a raise. Looked kind of fishy.
Anyway, I was correct to call this time. However, there are many times when I would throw this away, and much of that is player-dependant. |

Without a read I would fold even though that all-in felt kind of fishy.

guys, give your thread a little while to develop before giving the result.
no way he plays a big jack like that, it makes no sense at all. |
