Default cheap airline tickets

So I was just searching Orbitz and other sites for airline tickets and I came across one that seemed pretty good (for Labor Day Weekend). It was pretty expensive ($300), but when I clicked view available seats, both legs of the trip were only like 10% full. Now usually prices only go up with time, but with empty flights like this, do prices ever go down? Any other unusual advice for cheaper tickets, outside the Orbitz, Travelocity etc circuit?

Don't use Orbitz. They suck bad.

You are trusting Orbitz' info is up to date / accurate. If the flight is important I would just jump on it. Or, go to Southwest's site, their internet fares are as good as you'll find on these other sites.

Come to think of it, those Orbitz commercials are pretty damn annoying.

Yeah I've seen that page. I was actually using Travelocity at the time. It just seems ridiculous to pay $300 for a near empty flight.

Check the airlines page directly. You'll mabye only save an additional $20. The only other option is non-refundable tix southwest style. Or possibly going for a non-holiday weekend.

$300 for a round trip flight is pretty cheap, imo.

I don't think southwest even sells through other sites, and they usually have the best fares, not to mention my experiences dealing with any problems are usually less unpleasant with them.

Check out www.sidestep.com

It searches almost all ticket sites including orbitz, cheaptickets, expedia, travelocity, etc. Then displays the cheapest prices, definately will save you a lot of time and will give you many options.
