Stinking Donk Re-raise from the button!

I think you have to be really clear about your intentions before the flop is going to hit.. this is an easy call PF given the pot odds, but what do you want to hit and what do you want to bet on?

If you say, okay, I'm going to see if I can hit a straight draw or 2 pair with this hand before I commit money to the pot, then you go with that gameplan.. if you don't want to bet out when you hit a weak TP, then that's reasonable.

There's no rule on betting out when a J or Q high flop comes, I think people take different approaches here (leading out or checking to see your opponents strength first).. since you said he always min-raises, then I wouldn't be so quick to put him on a high pair, and i'd probably bet out here, then shut it down if he shows more strength..

I agree, but if you are going to call a substantial bet (as the OP did in this case), I think it's better to lead out than check/call.

if you're already set on calling his bet, then yea leading is much better, because he can then raise you and it's a quick muck, or FGators can dictate the bet size, and lose less/possibly win the pot.

I am really not sold that our hero is behind here. Clearly the villian is a bit weak, given that he ALWAYS min raises. So, I don't think we can automatically put him on a big hand becuase of the size of his bets.

I really don't like the blocking bet here. I think that is more appropriate for drawing hands, not for hands with TPWK. I would feel better with a check raise on the flop.

With this guy being as weak as I think he is, I think you are giving him an easy line to win the pot
with the blocking bet. He does not even know what you are doing.

This might not be addressing the call of the question directly, but I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the possibility of check-raising on the flop. You've got top pair. Your opponent is likely to make a continuation bet. And flops with a 7 and a 2 tend to miss most hands. Plus it will give you more information.

I agree completely, I bet this flop 50% of the time, and check-raise it 50% of the time. Check calling would never even occur to me. A check-raise here will either win the pot outright, or at least help to get a cheap showdown vs a (now) wary AA or KK.

Well what happened was I called the re-raise and checked the River. Villain ended up pushing and I folded. I still think there was something fishy going on and I had the best hand. An A10 or something might have been his hand. There was just some sense I got that he wanted me out of the hand and had the "poker courage" to do it.
