Re: Part-time income from hosting high stakes home tourneys?
You may run into some (potentially serious) legal issues here. You will have to check you local city/county ordinances, but most everywhere that I am aware of, the law prohibits the "house" from making money other than from playing in the game itself. I'm sure others here can provide more info related to the law. BTW, where do you live? This would help narrow down the issues.

Re: Part-time income from hosting high stakes home tourneys?
There is something wrong with that, it's illegal...in the US. Like someone before me said, maybe it's different in Canada, but I doubt it. That isn't a service that you're allowed to give .
Same thing as an underground casino, or raking your home game. Simply can't do it... Well, can't do it legally, not that the law ever stops me from doing anything, but hey, everyone's different. JMB |

blah blah its illegal blah blah.
the po-po's have bigger fish to fry. they aren't gonna worry about your little $250 poker game just like they don't worry about the millions that change hands everyday in online poker, which -- OH YEAH! -- is also illegal. |

[ QUOTE ]
I live in Canada and no I would not make money off the game, the money I would make would be for the food and service. Nothing wrong with that. [/ QUOTE ] I'm confused.. in your original post, you said this would help bring in some part-time income (~$150 post expenses), yet here you say that you will not be making money off of this? |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah.. I agree 100%, BUT, if you have read any of the recent threads around here, you will have read about busts in LA games as well as all kinds of interesting NYC posts. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying be careful of how you do it, and who you invite. The po-po's around here have no problem pulling someone over for doing 3-5 miles above the speed limit.. so why not this? |
