Default Question about flopped bottom set on 3 flush/straight board.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 5 handed) pokerhand.org hand converter

SB ($245.05)
BB ($519.14)
UTG ($169.1)
Hero ($200)
Button ($398.19)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $1.
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $7</font>, Button calls $7, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, BB calls $5.

Flop: ($22) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $20</font>, Button calls $20, BB folds.

Turn: ($62) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, Button checks.

River: ($62) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $50</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises to $100</font>, Hero calls $50.

Final Pot: $262

Button is a bit retarded and is pretty aggressive. Basically my question is, how do you play the turn and river? Flop and preflop seem pretty standard to me.

I prefer check calling river, the turn check induces your opp. to bluff.

So you make more money when you are ahead, see what I'm saying? Here you have to call, but you are probably beat.

I agree. By checking you produce an autobet from a missed flush most of the time.

I bet the turn, probably about $40-$50 against the "retarded" button. He likely has a bare A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] or a pair and a draw, maybe just a pair. Hate to let that lone spade get a free river card, or a weaker hand get an easy opportunity to blow you off the best hand. If he calls that bet, I check-call a decent river bet up to about $80.

With the way you played it, I agree with the other posters, check-call the river.

Results in white for anyone who is interested.

<font color="white">Button shows [ As, Qd ] high card ace.
Hero Shows shows [ 8c, 8d ] three of a kind, eights.
Hero wins $260 from the main pot with three of a kind, eights. </font>
