Bad fold on the turn?
Hello everyone,
2/4 game at the local Indian casino. Table is loose and passive, with 5-7 on average seeing the flop and about 1/4 of the pots raised preflop. No reads on the aggressors in this hand. I am in MP holding 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Two limpers before me, I call, 3 limpers after me, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (8 players, 7.5 SB) Checked to me. I check. MP2 bets. 4 callers. I call to close the action. Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img][5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]] (6 players, 6.25 BB) Checked to me. I check. MP2 bets. Folded to CO who raises. Folded to me. I fold. MP2 calls. Two questions about this hand: 1) Should I be more aggressive with an overpair and an OESD on a board with a flush draw? 2) Should I have called on the turn? - With MP2 likely to call behind me, I'm getting 10:2 on my call. I figure that my good outs are the 2 6s, the 3 non-spade 7s, and the 3 non-spade 2s. I'll ignore both the possibility of winning with a straight spade and the possibility of losing to a full house (treating these as pretty much cancelling out). That's eight outs, or just a skosh below the 5:1 that the pot is laying me. - At the table, I folded because: (a) I didn't count the likely extra bet from MP2's call and I didn't think 4.5:1 pot odds were enough, and (b) I was worried about MP2 reraising behind me -- he looked excited about his hand on the flop. Wussy all around, wussy on the turn, or just fine? Thanks, PP |

Re: Bad fold on the turn?
What are your reasons for not betting the flop yourself?
What are your reasons for folding a hand on the turn that may have as many as 10 outs? When all you do is check and call, you have a harder time figuring out where you stand. |

Re: Bad fold on the turn?
IMO you played this very, very poorly.
You HAVE to bet the flop because (1) you probably have the best hand (2) there are surely fish in the hand who are drawing to a flush or straight and you have to make them pay. Same as above for the turn. If someone has a 4, god bless'em, but you still have 10 outs. |

Yes
Pseudo,
You have fulfilled a self proclaimed prophecy. Everyone will agree that made a bad fold on the turn. Most people will also tell you that you made a bad play on the flop by not betting. Compound these two errors and you played the hand horribly. 2) Should I have called on the turn? How about raising the turn? |

Re: Yes
Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with how I played this hand.
After I folded and saw what MP2 had, I thought about how the hand played out, racked up my chips and left the game. FWIW, the river card was an off-suit Q, and the CO won with 4s full of 5s. MP2 had a pair of 7s. He played his hand the way I should have played mine, which was annoying to note in retrospect. PP |
