Good book for 1/2 N/L?
Up until yesterday I played exclusively live Limit Holdem. ( up to 10/20) I was on a casino boat and they only had 1/2 NL $300 max going. I decided to give it try rather than do nothing for 3 1/2 hours. I basically played my limit strategy except obviously for the betting amounts and did pretty well, + $600.
To my surprise I found that the no-limit players were as bad as the limit players I've been seeing, maybe worse. I'd like to go back and try it again. Are there any good books on playing small stakes No Limit that anyone can recommend. Is it correct to apply SSHE strategies to baby No Limit? |

Re: Good book for 1/2 N/L?
I haven't given a thorough read to SSHE, but I doubt that, aside from the descriptions of the types of mistakes you are likely to see, it is the best book. At these levels if you just play TAG, ABC poker you will do really well. I like Super System 2 as a good NL book. The only thing is SS gives more credit to opponents than most 1/2 NL players actually deserve.

<ul type="square"> [*]The rumored new Miller/Sklansky book..... oh, wait, never mind - it doesn't exist yet.
[*]GSIH is suprisingly useful to experienced limit players making this transition. Its short-stack approach is PERFECT for games like Foxwoods' or Borgata's $1-2 [*]HOH1 is quite good. I haven't bought HOH2 yet but I imagine it's almost useless to full ring games, because it mostly deals w/ late stages of tournaments.
|

Super System is useful, though as rightly pointed out, it does apply more to situations with stronger opponents.
Harrington's first book also provides some very helpful concepts which can be used outside of the tournament setting, even simple things such as continuation and probe bets. The first section of book 2 is similarly helpful. |

Re: Good book for 1/2 N/L?
I was under the impression that the short-stack system doesn't lend itself to live play because you have to leave the table to cash out, then there's a wait for another table, etc. Please elaborate--thanks.
