Default JJ fold them preflop ?

UTG raises. You are UTG+1 with J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J. You know UTG will only raise with AQs any AK and PP T and higher. The table is very tight and it will probably be heads up. I sure will fold TT here. Is a fold with my Jacks reasonable ?

What if the blinds are both fishy and one of them (if not both) will probably call a raise ?

(The short answer.)

I 3 bet it pre flop. Hope to get it heads up. See the flop and hope it contains either a Jack and/or no A-K-Q. Hope UTG has something like A-K or A-Q.

UTG is tight
To outplay him means you must
Throw it in the muck

If you can definitely put him on PP TT or AQ-AK, and can expect one or both of the blinds to call with hands like KQo, QJs, A9, etc., you certainly cannot call.

In a tournament, I lay this thing down without even a second thought, but in a typical cash game, I like the 3-bet option & see what happens. If UTG caps it, you may have to lean towards reading him on AA or KK, in which case you fold. If he just calls, and the board doesn't pair his overcards, its time to ram & jam.

Folding when getting 7 to 1 odds to call one more bet is horrible poker. JJ is only a 4 to 1 underdog to AA or KK.

If you don't flop a set or OESD, then of course you re-evaluate the situation.

1) I think folding here in a limit game is horrible. If the blinds are willing to come along, good for them, my hand is likely the best overall and most definitely better than them if they are just calling.

2) The question for me is if the flop comes down a bunch of rags, will you be able to determine on the flop if UTG's hand is AK, AQ, or a big pocket pair. Will he shut it down if you raise his flop bet? Or will he be tricky about it?
