Default Please Help with my business

This is not a solicitation for business, just for opinions.

My father and I run a small business building and selling custom poker tables. We've been doing it for about two years. The tables are always octagon style, usually built of solid oak or cherry wood. We don't build anything with collapseable legs, they are all build on a solid wood pedalstal. They are almost always made to order. We always keep a couple 'semi finished' tables around, but for the most part we do not keep an inventory.

The point is we are getting to the point where it's time to broaden our horizons, and we need to do more to appeal to the masses.

Any comments as to your preferences as far as your experiences in casinos and home games would be much appreciated.

Thanks

PG

The rail is essential, in my opinion. You will do better with collapsable legs, as most people put the tables away. I would just give each customer these options, as you are selling CUSTOM poker tables, no cookie cutter tables.

Why?

Padded rails are not hard to construct, I do think they take away from the elegance of the table from an asthetic point of view.

I am curious as to why they are essential.

I would say, based on my experience, that 90% of your business for Texas Hold'Em tables will include a padded rail. For the octogon tables, you are looking at 50% or so. For a basic design, I would include it, as the majority want something that looks like what they've seen in the casino.

Other than the red felt, I love it. Green's the only way to go.
