UTG calls $1, 2 folds, Hero raises to $4, SB (poster) calls $3.50, BB calls $3, UTG calls $3.

Flop: ($16) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB bets $15, BB folds, UTG folds, Hero raises to $40, SB calls $25.
 Weak raise?. My only explanation is I had my eye on his whole stack, and was planning on getting it in on the turn. Once he calls the raise I put him on a set or maybe an A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]? 

Turn: ($96) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.
 My plan after the board paired was to check/call the hand down.

SB calls $72.52 (All-In), Hero folds.

Obviously, on the river I figured I was most likely behind. How bad did I screw this up and why?

Your flop raise is pretty bad, but not as bad since you had the discipline to lay it down when he probably hit. You still need to raise more. Villain has a lot of outs and probably isn't folding a set or A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Get it in now while you're ahead. You have to fight the temptation to get greedy and take what you can get. If he holds he folds. You still win a nice pot.

freeshots with no redraw when you are 95% ahead is no good.

Do you push it all in on the turn? What hand range do you put the villain on?

Turn check no good. You have to set him in on the turn. 40% of stack is already in and the dreaded fourth diamond didn't hit. Fearing a set with this action seems like seeing monsters under the bed. With 100BB stacks I would love to get it in on the turn.

Looks good. Rough to see the board pair on the turn. Against good opponents, I actually like how you played it. At the NL100, though, hmm.... you only have 60 left in a 95 pot. I just throw it in on the turn. His hand range is much wider than just a full house.

I don't think your flop raise is horrible. Personally I'd go $45, but I don't see it as a big deal.

As other's have said, you have to get the money in on the turn.
