Default 20\" monitor question...

Im thinking on buying the Dell2001fp (for 1600X1200 mostly) but my current 17 inch crt monitor sits with the base at about mid chest level and (when im fully sitting back) its about 2 feet from my eyeballs.

my question: will i beable to stare at a big ol 20" monitor for hours everyday and not have any problems? Seems like a huge difference and my current monitor seems fairly large now, just curious about how you guys feel looking into that big thing so much.

thanks,

galahad

The first day you'll go wow, this [censored] thing is big.

By day two you won't know how you ever lived without the 20" beauty.

you would be the first man on earth to prefer a 17" monitor over a 20"er.

LOL, use the 20" for about an hour or two, then hook your 17" back up. I'll buy the 20" if you still think the 17" is big. I fell in love with my 21" in about 0.23 seconds. I MIGHT hook the 17" up as a second monitor for surfing/PT/email/etc while playing on the 21".

The 20 inchers do have a slightly higher profile then most typical monitors but it is nothing that will make it uncomfortable to look at.

It will probably be easier to look at... the dell 2001fp will probably make looking at your old 17 incher a task.

Depends what sort of problems you include... I use big flat panel screens at work (programmer, 11-12 hour days) and home (poker, 4-5 hour days), and have no eyestrain etc problems at all, though I used to when using old-style 17" monitors. As far as other problems go, my level of actual contact with other humans has probably dropped a bit below the ideal level...

The adjustment from my 17" CRT at 800x600 was kind of dizzying on my eyes for the first day, but if you run a bigger rez already I imagine the transition will be easy. People don't kid either about how great these are. I have to send my 2001 back to dell for a week or two and I can't imagine not using it, I'll be spending whatever time I don't have this on an isolated lake in new hampshire.

On a side note, does anyone know if running 1600x1200 is better for your eyes than stuff like 800x600, or worse?

Maybe someone can link to the "eye doctor" post from a few months ago. it might have been total horsesh!t (If it was it was very well thought out horse sh!t) In summary dude says theres no proof of eye damage to computer geeks.
