i want honest answers. how much of one's success from an average poker session do you really think is luck?
i just dont know anymore. sometimes i think it's 20% and other times i'm convinced it's 80% |

Put it to rest... it's zero, anything else is smoke and mirrors. Luck is the past, not the present or future.

Re: no B.S.-- how much of poker is luck?
This is a useless discussion
On any given hand of poker it's nearly 100% luck. In the end, after every single hand of your life has been dealt, it is indeed 0.0% luck whether you are ahead or behind. Famous quote: "A hand of poker is like a game of chess for $1 followed by a coin flip for $10. At the end of the night, whether you are ahead or behind depends almost entirely on the coin flips. At the end of the year, it's almost entirely the chess game." |

If you view your actions as all that matter, isn’t it reasonable to assume that luck as a meaningful concept in poker exists only in the eyes of your opponents?

50/50. It's skill when you win, luck when you lose.

Re: no B.S.-- how much of poker is luck?
I think you have to define a bit more.
Do you mean skill/luck over a year, month, week, day, a 3 hour session or just one hand? |

Re: no B.S.-- how much of poker is luck?
Yes, because you could basically sit here and say that a guy sits down in a poker game and wins money... With no concept of why...just wins... then he dies... Was that luck?

Re: no B.S.-- how much of poker is luck?
I think there is a lot of luck in poker as is with any game of chance. By using the right poker concpets you can help off set your bad luck by loosing less and increase your winnings when your having good luck and hopefully coming out ahead in the end.
I dont think sound poker concepts in and of themselves = winning ways you do need a little luck and to think otherwise is only kidding yourself |

Re: no B.S.-- how much of poker is luck?
Reminds me of a Jesus quote. He basically stated that over a given session it is 90% luck and 10% skill. However looking over the course of a year it should be flipped - 90% skill, 10% luck.
