Could someone get me a link on why blackjack is -EV?
I know that, without card counting, blackjack is -EV but I'd like to prove it to a friend so if someone could get me a link I would appreciate it. Wrong forum I konw, but I figured I'd get a quick answer for this easy question here.

You don't need a link. Go to Las Vegas. Look at all the lavish hotels and casinos. They didn't build those off players having +EV at blackjack.

Instead of being kicked out and having his picture circulated around town, he was invited back for a week on the house. Another way to put it is to ask your friend why casinos offer blackjack if it's -EV (for the casino). Perhaps he watches the Travel Channel too much? |

Why Blackjack is -EV?
The player always go first. When the player, acting first, busts, he loses. The dealer does not play out his hand to see if he would have busted also and call it a tie.
That's it. The player acting first and having the chance of busting before the dealer. Almost too simple, isn't it? |

Re: Why Blackjack is -EV?
But note that the player has many options that the dealer does not, that gives the player an advantage. Such as 3:2 on blackjack, doubling the bet, spliting a pair, stop taking cards before reaching 17. But the fact that the dealer goes second overcomes all these "advantages" that the player has. Hence the -EV for the player.

Re: Could someone get me a link on why blackjack is -EV?
As far as I know, the only way to rigorously prove that blackjack without counting is -EV and with counting is +EV is by means of computer simulations.
