Default Tunica questions

Next month I'll be making my first Tunica visit since 1996.
I will probably only be there for one Friday evening, and I'm looking for recommendations on where to play and stay.

I'll probably be playing low-limit HE anywhere from 3-6 to 6-12 (and maybe 8-16 or 10-20 if I'm running good and feeling brave).

When I was there before I stayed at the Horseshoe and really enjoyed it. More recently I've heard good things about the Grand.

Questions:
<ul type="square"> [*]Which casino has the best room rate and comps for low-limit players?[*]Which has the softest low-limit HE games? [*]Is the Friday HE tourney at the Grand worth playing?
Thanks in advance.

Default Re: Tunica questions

I would recommend staying at the Gold Strike. They have the best poker rate ($19, 7 days a week), and it's one of the nicest (if not *the* nicest) hotels in town. Plus, they're extremely generous with food comps, but everywhere in Tunica is. I can't recall ever paying for a meal anywhere so long as I was playing.

Another bonus (or maybe not, depending on your preference): it's the only room that prohibits smoking at the tables. And... on top of everything else, the 3-6 games there are very good. They'll spread 6-12 and/or 10-20 when there's enough interest, usually on the weekends. Like anywhere else, games get tougher as the limits go up.

As for the other rooms, I like the 4-8 at Sam's Town, and they have a bigger room than GS. Smoky, though. Also, you're more likely to find a 10-20 there. Poker rates are $35 on the weekends.

I don't go to Hollywood much anymore, but they do have 3-6. Rooms are $25, I think. There's a cool 4-8 at the Grand with blinds only 1/2. I like the games at the Grand, but the room is claustrophobic (maybe you've noticed I like to be comfortable when I play...). Rates are $35 on the weekends. Also, along with the Horseshoe, they spread the biggest games in town. Noone in Tunica spreads 8-16 that I know of, and the 6-12 at GS is fairly rare, so as a rule, it's either 3-6 or 4-8 before you must jump to 10-20.

Hope this helps. Just book your reservation through the poker room wherever you decide to stay. You really can't go wrong (though I do have a personal beef with the hospitality at the Horeshoe, so if you stay there, you're on your own ). Have a great trip!

The 4-8 game at the Grand is no more. The Grand spreads 3-6 HE 5-10 HE 3-6 Omaha and 1-5 stud on a daily basis. 2-10 stud with a $1 ante is spread about 4 days a week. 10-20 HE is spread on the weekends and occasionally during the week. 4-8 HE (with full blinds), 7.50-15 and 15-30 HE are srpead when there is enough demand. I have to recomment that players DO NOT stay at the Gold Strike because the poker room manager ("Pepper" Munsey) attempted to steal $90 from me (it took me almost a year to recover it), I can send anyone the details that would like them.
