Default Take it to the river

Trying to make heads or tails of the concept of taking premium pairs to the end. His raise represents a str8 but he'd need the last Q in the deck. I called down and it felt icky.

Also, should I fold/call/complete on 3rd?

I like to complete 3rd. Otherwise, I like the call down.

You have to complete on 3rd, you are in prime position to make all those behind you looking at their 'potentials' to fold, and if you don't, then they are paying through the neck for the opportunity to draw out.

As I evolve as poker player, I'm figuring out that losing money is mostly related to postflop/4th-5th play rather than whether you raise with x in x position.

On 4th you have 4 other people in with you, now YOU are the underdog. (reverse implied odds ... AndyB correct me if I'm wrong sir!)

Queens are at best not that much better than Jacks, but even with trips I don't like playing them against 5 people, and there is a LARGE divide between trips and one pair.

Thanks, this hand pretty much blew from a poker theory point of view, but I figured posting it would give me some good ideas and/or embarrass me into playing better.

Most of the good literature on stud also refers to a game that is quite different than the $1ante 10/20 available (or the $2 20/40 for that matter). I forget that a lot too. It struck me that percy6 will fold quite often to the bringin when he is last to act - in 7CSFAP it says raise 85% of the time. Different game.
