I've noticed that in the early years of the WSOP, there was no rake. In 1979 for instance there were 54 players with a total prize pool of $540,000, which was split among the top 5 finishers. What's up with that, and when did this change?

[/ QUOTE ]

that's because it was held for publicity. Benny actually paid half of the 10k for the players (ten or so) in the mid-70s.

That site is kind of interesting...

i don't know too much WSOP history.
I knew that Sexton had one bracelet (I think 7-card stud in 1989 or something) but I had no idea he had that many high finishes in the main-event. Actually have more respect for the guy after seeing this:

24th in 91
23rd in 92
24th in 93
23rd in 95
12th in 00
29th in 01

Also i didn't know:

David Sklansky,
42nd in 2002
27th in 1988

FWIW, Mike Sexton is quite a tournament player, and has 37 cashes at the WSOP - that's more than some very well respected players like: Ulliott, Daugherty, Reese, Negreanu, Deeb, Tomko, Lederer and the list goes on - including Brunson, because there are only 9 players with more cashes in the history of the WSOP. Go Figure.
