Default Tahoe Poker rooms

Hey all- planning a trip to Tahoe in September (for a wedding; would much rather go to LV). In the bit of research that I have done so far, I have only found two casinos with poker rooms (Harvey's and Horizon). Are there others? Has anyone played in these rooms? Recommendations?

TIA for your assistance.

Yeh those are the only two poker rooms.

Horizon only has 4 tables though and almost never more than 2 games going, usually 2-6 spread limit.

Harveys is bigger, but they take out a pretty good rake and a $1 bonus, totaling up to $5 in a $3-$6 game. The players are genuinely horrible though so the games are still very profitable. They don't even spread higher limit games usually though. On a weekend they might have a 4-8 1/2 kill going which is also very soft, and possibly a 10-20 1/2 kill game too. I haven't played in that one though.

Hope that helps. Harveys also has some tournaments they run on Tuesdays and Thursdays I think, with a $25 buy in and $20 rebuys, generally between 50-70 people. The format kind of sucks though, as you don't start with many chips and the blinds escalate pretty fast.

I was just up there a few months ago - here's the scoop:

Horizon has a dark dingy little poker room that usually has 1-2 tables of 2-5 spread limit going. I didn't play here but it didn't look very nice. Talked to a few people who did play in it and they said it was a bit rockish.

Harveys, on the other hand, has a very nice little poker room with 10 or so tables. They always have a few 3-6 games going and usually a 5-10. They also usually have a LL stud game going. NL tournaments on either Tues or Wed night, I can't rememeber which.

Friendly, competant dealers. No smoking in the room, but there's a bar next to the rail that allows smoking. Free coffee, OJ and bottled waters. Free sandwiches brought in most days. Room service menu available, but if you eat at the table the locals look at you funny and ask if you're from California.

I played in the 3-6 for the couple of days I was there. Great game. Very loose and passive for the most part. Gets a bit LAGish at night when the drunk locals turn it into a semi-home game. For the most part, its a very friendly, social game with a nice mix of clueless tourists who are just having fun and only slightly less clueless locals who want the tourists to keep having fun.

All in all, its a great little poker room for low limit fun. THe only downside is the drop - $4 max + $1 jackpot. But when I was there I won $75 out of the jackpot for quad Kings, so I didn't mind.

Oh yeah, keep an eye out for a young kid named Franklin. He'll be the loudmouth local at the table most days:

"hayaaa! somebody call the fire department, i'm on fire!"
"what are you going to do now big boy!"
"put an aflac on the board!"
etc
etc

I was just there in late MAY. Harveys is definitely the best place to play. They have a NL hold em tourney every morning at 10:00 AM when the card room opens. It is 2 tables only so 22 people max. I played on a Monday and was #19 to sign up at 9:30 AM. The buy in is $30 and I took 3rd for about a $115 payout. Right after the tourney they start up a 3/6 game. At about 2PM they started a 4/8 1/2 kill.

They also have $25 buy in limit hold em tournies on tues and thur at 6:00 PM.

I really enjoyed playing at Harveys. Have Fun.

LOL! I had forgotten than one. I think there's a chance I might have played with you while I was there back in March... I remember chatting with a guy who said he was originally from Philly.

Harveys is the only decent cardroom in Tahoe. BUt it's a pretty short drive over to Reno (45 minutes?) where there are several rooms to choose from.

I want to be able to stumble down to the room at any hour while my wife is showering or sleeping (or is looking the other way!). We will probably check Reno out at least one night, however.

Sounds like I'd better book a room at Harvey's. Next question- anyone have a line on any good deals? I am a AAA member, which usually gets us some sort of deal.

Well, we took the plunge and booked at Harvey's 9/17-21...I was worried that I would have to talk my wife into it (since I thought she might want to stay at Caesar's), but the bride and groom of the wedding we are attending are staying at Harvey's, so it was an easy sale! Hope my luck at the tables is that good
