The players have probably gotten to know each other better than you think.

They've all been through pretty much the same stuff...maybe even had dinner with each other out there a few times...and then sat at the same poker-table for about 12 hours a day (or through multiple days).

But obviously it still isn't like they've known each other as well as players on a sports-team who have been practicing together all season.

Guys hugging each other is fine.
No big deal.
These guys getting all emotional over someone getting knocked out..and especially the way Bernard was doing it...just 'rubs me' the wrong way (so to speak).

One thing I don't miss in sports is all the butt-patting.
They just don't do it as much anymore thankfully.

Watch some ESPN-classic or old NFL-films stuff and all they seem to do is pat each others' buns....which kind of creeps me out actually (edit - but would be REALLY amusing if it happened in poker)

I believe you were there, so I will defer to you. I am also careful to judge as I don't know how I would react under the same pressure. I'd like to think I would do differently, but who knows.

I had dinner with my wife's family not too long ago. One of her brother's is big on coaching kids, little league, pop warner football, that kind of thing.

I don't remember how it came up but at one point he says "Oh, no, we don't hug the kids at all....ever. You know how things are these days."

I said, oh, so you don't pat them on the butt any more? he quickly replied, "Oh no! Of course we do that all the time!!!"

I couldn't stop laughing.
