Raise or call w/ BB forced all-in?
I'm at the final table of a $65 buyin + $50 addon local casino tournament with blinds doubling every fifteen minutes (ugh!). The blinds are 2000/4000 and I have around 45000 in chips in the small blind. Average is around 25000. The big blind has only 1000 chips left after posting the blind so she will certainly call no matter what.
I have A5o, it is folded to the button who has 30000 chips and limps in. I read this as being weak (I am pretty sure he just wants me to call and for us to check it down to help eliminate the BB). I raise to 12000, reasoning that if he folds there will be dead money in a probable favorable allin with BBs random 2 cards. Is this a good play, or should I have just called? This situation seems to be not all that uncommon towards the end of a tourney. result: It worked out as I thought, the limper folded after agonizing for a while, and my A5o beat BBs 67o |

Re: Raise or call w/ BB forced all-in?
if i were to raise, i'd push. you're leaving yourself in a tough spot with a lot of villain's stack in the middle, out of position. i would probably complete and then bet ~1/3 pot on any non-A flop.
