I'm not sure what you mean. This is the only position in which I can make this move. I'm mimicing a slowplay, making it look like I'm trying to keep the 3rd guy involved.

In reality, I know the odds are good that the 3rd guy will fold, since he'd probably raise an ace when it's checked to him as a poster, unless it's very weak, and the two aces hitting makes that even less likely. Now on the turn, after my attempted trap has "failed", I bet out because I'm afraid the other guy will check behind. He realizes that the only hand I can play this way is an ace. Right? What else can I have? I'm a reasonable player, 20/10/2. Surely I'm not check calling with 73.


advantages:
- I save a SB when the 3rd guy has something worth playing.
- My turn bet is more convincing
- the pot is restolen from me less often

disadvantages:
- I lose an extra SB when the button has an ace
- The button may catch a pair and call the turn where he would have folded to a check raise.


Of course, the normal attempt at stealing is to raise. But this works quite well too and is good way to mix it up against the better players.

Just not worth it. You have to risk 1.5big bets to win a shitty pot in which the preflop raiser will def. call you down with any pair or ace, hell, would you even offer me 4:1 odds that an unknown would fold KQ here? I doubt you would.

Why bet and not check raise? The check raise, even if button checks behind, more clearly defines your hand as holding an ace, no? If he checks behind, you bet out on the river and probably accomplish your goal.

By the way, I like the play.

It's too bad the flop didn't include the 6 :heart: which would have made your odds of sucking out his underfull 1974 to 6, or 329 to 1 - exactly the same odds as Danny had!

ive done that and it's very effective against the right players, particularly in bigger games. do you then usually donk bet the turn, c/r turn, or donk bet the river?

This move is not a new one, in that something like this was, if memory serves, in the original HPFAP. In my experience, this move used to work better than it does now, and it works better against less aggressive players.
