Default The juicy online games of today: Taking it too far?

Five-handed $20-40. Looks juicy so far with at least a couple of soft spots.

All limp to me in SB where I find 7c7s. I raise. BB calls and rest call. Five to the flop for 10 small bets.

Flop: 8s-6s-2d. I bet, three call.

Turn: 3c. I bet, two call (BB and UTG).

River: Jc. I bet.

Comments?

No one seems to have made any effort to notify you that your hand is not best so far.

the question is whether you will make more by betting and getting called by worse hands or by checking and hoping someone else will bet so you can call (or that a pair of 8s checks behind). this is one of those perfect boards where there is absolutely no chance a better hand folds if you bet so that leaves that option out.

i think you may make more by checking because that gives a busted draw a chance to bet and you could make it tough for someone thinking in the middle with 85 or whatever to overcall. of course that means you should actually checkraise the river but that's a little ambitious isnt it?

nevertheless, i think check-calling here is best.

since you're out of position, how much value does raising have?

do you mean preflop? i dont like the raise preflop. i understand it but i have a problem with pressing too hard after i raise preflop so it's not a good play for me to make anymore.

J/C why not raise 77 in this situation? If you flop a set and bet aggressively postflop, it will often be interpreted as overcard bluffing.

Bet the flop,

check the turn, with an intention to checkraise,

Bet the river no matter what falls. You want them to put you on overpair when you CR the turn, otherwise they could easily put you on AK and call you down.

The biggest problem is a function of two things. First, you are out of position, so you will have no idea how your opponents hit the flop. So, you almost need to auto-bet the flop. If you don't bet, and it gets checked around, any free card will likely hurt you. So, if you raise preflop, you almost have to bet the flop.

Well, by raising preflop, you make the pot biggish. And now you are going to have to bet the flop. You've made the pot big, and your opponents will be getting like 11:1 or more to call, and thus will be correct to chase with anything (or, rather, a lot).

This effect actually decreases your chances of winning the pot. not only that, but you are now committed to putting in at least 3 bets into the pot. If you just limp, you aren't committed to putting in any more than 1 bet, and your chances of winning the pot goes way up.

yeah, by limping, the pot is only half as big, but your committment into the pot is only 1/3 as much. And by limping, your chance of winning the pot is much higher.

Wow, I'm wordy tonight.

Josh

You're misunderstanding the hand. The plan is not for a better hand to fold, the plan is for worse hands to call. If they put you on AK great.
