Default Thanks Table Coach

Playing 3/6 on Party and tilting a bit because a couple LAGs are pummeling me with suckouts. I pick up good hand after hand and I'm down 25 BB. Then this hand comes up. Tilty is me. MP3 is an aforementioned LAG.

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (8 handed)

Preflop: Tilty is UTG with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
Tilty raises, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB folds.

Flop: (9.33 SB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
Tilty bets, MP2 calls, CO folds, Button folds.

Turn: (5.66 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Tilty bets, MP2 raises, Tilty calls.

River: (9.66 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Tilty checks, MP2 bets, Tilty calls.

Final Pot: 11.66 BB

Then this one dude who's been jabbering all game says: "Way to keep betting that."

We get into verbal fisticuffs, the table jumps on him, and we have fun ragging on each other.

But seriously, I played that hand terribly. I wanted to 'see what he had'. I immediately straightened up after he said that and began to analyze the situation. My tilt melted away. Then I went and checked my pokertracker stats.

For AKs-ATo, I'm going to the showdown 43% of the time and winning 60% of those. So I seem to be doing ok there.

So in short, the table coach 1) defused my tilt, and 2) made me examine my play, and 3) let me verbally abuse him.

Thanks table coach.

I believe this story works well as a corollary to the maxim,"Don't tap the fishtank." Ego-driven table coaches never seem to get that you want people to play badly.

Your reaction was, I think, so unusual that you should be congratulated.

Most "titlies" get further off-balance when they receive lectures and criticisms. You apparently recognized that you were playing terribly and corrected your game.

Well done.

I'm pretty sure he knew that. This is the Psychology forum, not Small Stakes.
