That's the one I started to make last weekend. However, after I finished doing the top, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want the inner wood ring, and would build a wide rail with cupholders in the rail. I didn't want to try my hand at making the inner in a $22 piece of birch plywood, and then making sure I drill nice through that piece, and the felted bottom piece.
I'm going to be working on the rail this Sunday, but so far the table top by itself looks great! If you need any hints or other pieces of my though process while attempting the same table, drop a line here.

why didn't you want the inner ring? Too hard to build or you just changed your mind.
We already have purchased the padded railing and chrome cupholders from casinosupply.com. I haven't built anything since 8th grade woodshop, and it takes me hours to put together simple IKEA furniture, but my buddy suposedly is pretty handy, so I'll probably end up reading the directions to him. LOL! thanks.

Same here with the woodshop class. I thought I did pretty well with the jig saw cuts on the main table, but there it didn't really matter that they were precise as it would end up being covered by the felt and rails. I also didn't want to then take the chance of ruining the inner ring and or ripping the felt by drilling out the cup holders in the ring and main table.
Another thing I gave up on was that I was going to make rails like the casinosupply ones, but by covering pool noodles with vinyl. My plan now is to do a raised, flat top rail covered in padding and vinyl, with rope light around the inside and the cupholders in the rail. This way if I mess up drilling or cutting it's only cheap OSB ply and not a twenty dollar piece of birch.

wow...that turned out nice...was cutting the "donut" very hard?
We are not going to have a dealer tray, but I don't suppost it makes a huge difference. How long did it take you and were there any surprises along the way that I should be aware of?

Do you have a pic of yours? It's still something I'm debating on having the cupholders in the rail or in the table. The only thing that scares me about putting them in the table is that I already have the felt on and I don't want to mess up and rip my felt while drilling. I imagine you made your cutouts before laying the felt, so you probably didn't have this concern. And, I could also still undo and then redo the felt if I decide to do it that way.
Anyone here have regrets about having cupholders in the rail as opposed to the table?

I struggled with that question too. I'll be starting my table as well this weekend.
Eventually I copped out and decided I would do slide-unders with the "perfect rail" thing. Easiest solution, plus I like the idea of being able to remove the cupholders if desired. I won't be doing the nice inner wood ring either. Sigh... I'm such a rookie.
