Default Pocket 9\'s on S.Stack

play in local tournament last night & would like to hear how others would have played.
8 man table, 16 left total. Blinds 200 - 400, average stack on table $9K. Im on button with about $4.5K. UTG raises to $1,600 - have played with him multiple times & have seen him raise in that spot with small pairs, aq ect..I felt he overbet the pot, based on the other raises he made earlier n the tourny. I have pocket 9's on the button & decide to move in...
Results - he had AK - ended up catching K on 4th st & knocked me out.. Should I have smooth called the original bet?

Whichever one of those means, "No, you should not have smooth-called," that's the one I pick.

Finally we disagree. Option 2 is the preferred choice and it's not even close. Do you see why?

If I can't see why can you ask vince to explain it to me in 8975893489 words or less? (actually 27 words repeated ad nauseum)

I push.

Given some information regarding the relative talent of the field and the payout structure of the tourney, I might change my mind.
However, based solely on the info in your post, I push.

my mistake....first time posting & did it incorrectly - I would just like to know how others would have played this hand.. Did I have enough$$ to smooth call & if had a favorable flop, move in? Or did I play correctly by moving in pre-flop?

You played it fine. You needed to acquire chips. You found a situation where you correctly identified a spot where you were a favorite and got all your chips in the middle. My answer might change based on the money situation and other stacks left in the tourney.
