Raise the river with half goods and fold to a threebet?
Player is TAG
Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is Button with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero caps</font>, BB calls. OK, so he has a strong hand but not strong enough to cap Flop: (8.40 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font> BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, BB calls. OK. Not a middle PP else he would have raised. Overcards? AX? Turn: (5.20 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font> BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB raises</font>, Hero calls. Ah, that hit him. AK, KQ, (KJ) River: (9.20 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font> <font color="#CC3333">BB bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">BB 3-bets</font>, Hero calls. OK. the river didn't go as planned. The plan was to fold to a threebet because that would mean he had AK. I abandoned the plan and called. It felt bad. Also it might have looked like a bluff because of the 6. Final Pot: 15.20 BB I should just have called right? Raising + folding to a threebet bad? Oh my, oh my, when will I stop sucking. |

Re: Raise the river with half goods and fold to a threebet?
Given that BB is a TAG, showed aggression PF and then check-raised you on the turn, I think a call on the river is correct, not a 3-bet. You note that you think the K on the turn hit him and that A-K is a strong possibility (as is AA). You have TPGK, got check-raised when you hit that, and then BB bets into you on the river. The line looks more than just a blind defense.
IMO, that kind of line would indicate more of a LAG or a TAG who "thinks" he has a read on you that you'll lay down to a river 3-bet after being check-raised on the turn. |

Re: Raise the river with half goods and fold to a threebet?
Yeah. I was trying to make more money the times I was ahead by raising the river.
But of course I'd have to be ahead more than 50% of the times for that to be correct. I clearly was behind more than 50% of the time. Also he wouldn't call with all worse hands. I apperantly couldn't fold to a 3-bet. I would have to be ahead the vast majority of times for my play to be profitable. Bad. I probably cost myself more than 1 BB on the river. Tomorrow I'll start playing well!!! |
