preflop raising frequency
I'm teaching a new player how to play and finding it hard to exactly iterate what my thinking is in some places.
right now he wants to know how I decide my betting frequency preflop. So I told him to consider the following: A. if there a raiser 1. What is your position on the raiser 2. How tight is the raiser (how often does he raise)? 3. is the raiser loose tight aggressive passive postflop B. No raiser 1. position 2. how many callers 3. how many players left to act (and their relative tightness). 4. relative tightness of the table What other kinds of things do you guys consider? And I'm also curious how you guys change your betting frequency based on the above guidelines. |

Re: preflop raising frequency
You left out stack sizes when calling raises/raising. Pretty important to consider, especially when calling a raise.

Re: preflop raising frequency
Not really on topic, but one thing that's important is that you do not get him to raise SCs... You can handle that when you're experienced enough to let go when you flop TP, or when you flop a draw but aren't getting pot odds to call. New players just call bets they shouldn't with draws and with top pair, cos they think they might get lucky. Then they play 50 000 hands and don't care about luck, they just care about EV.
Raising SC in LP is great for an experienced player to do though. |
