Long version = Great

Short version = Not Nearly As Good, Watch it only after seeing long version for historical interest

Exactly my thoughts. I'd see it again if it ever came on tv, but hell, I just saw Mobsters again on tv last month.

In other words, I don't remember Once Upon a Time in America as a classic.

p.s. before I get ragged on, let me say that it's probably better than Mobsters.

Elizabeth McGovern is hot.

Indeed! She was quite fine in Ordinary People, too. We see a little naked buns action in Once Upon a Time in America too, don't we?

Elizabeth McGovern's all right, but I thought it was kind of a letdown to have Jennifer Connelly play her as a thirteen year old then Elizabeth McGovern as an adult, as Jennifer was obviously going to be better looking than McGovern.

And the buns aren't either of them...the scene is from when she is young, but they used a body double for Connelly, as her parents didn't want her to do the nude scene at I believe the age of twelve. I think this double is a well-known actress, too, I used to know her name but I can't remember.

I love this movie, and pretty much all of Leone's work. The music score is fantastic as well.

Is this the movie where James Woods throws himself into the garbage truck crusher in the end? If it is I don't believe any human being could do that to themselves of their own free will.
Secondly I think that scene is out of character for his character. Appraances mattered to him, I mean he was a us senator beautiful home, clothes, car, wife, he just wouldn't want to be all mangled like that. He's sleeping pill type, or gas. It just didn't fit for me. However it was a good movie otherwise.

13 year old Jennifer Connelly = GOLD.

Elizabeth McGovern was banging ROB REINER during this period of her life, btw.
