man... me and mperich would still be playing right now if we didn't double the stakes. I don't see what the big deal is.

It's not a big deal, which is why all the matches are standing as they were played. But I am clarifying a rule that was already made. The goal is to find the best compromise between metric of skill and time efficiency, doubling the stakes seems to err too much on the side of diluting skill to me.
