How did I play this KK?

I was trying to apply the two overpair hands chapter (passing up a smaller edge on the flop). I thought if a spade came on the turn I could fold easily. Am I applying this concept correctly?

What if the river is a spade, BB bets and UTG folds? Would you call or fold?

I think you'd have to make the crying call since the pot is large enough...

Although we can see from the river action that BB almost certainly had a high spade, I don't think you can put him on one just from flop/turn action.
