Hi Everyone!

This is my first post after lurking for a few weeks. I have literally only been playing for just a few weeks after watching a friend play some games on ladbrokespoker (I live in the UK). I lost about £20 quite recklessly (Yes I know this is nothing to most who post here [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] But I could see it the start of a slippery slope [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]) so have been playing on play money tables recently while my game improves, but find that this really doesnt help as people play differently with play money...

I've read a lot of the posts on here about improving my game and have bought my first book - Hold Em Poker by Mr. Sklansky. Whle it has been a big help, it's not suitable for NL? So am ordering the other books recommended on these forums.

Another piece of advice I would like to follow is using PokerTracker - but alas at the moment it does not work with ladbrokes.

So my main question is, living in the UK, what poker rooms would people recommend that I can use Poker Tracker with?

And do you have any other good advice for a complete noob?

Lastly, thanks to all the posters here whose helpful posts have helped me so far and will hopefully help me improve my game even further - If I can help anyone in the future I will [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

PS - Anyone know a good place to get Hold Em Poker For Advanced Players in the UK - the only place I have seen it in stock it was £30 (around $50USD!!!)

PPS - Also, anyone have any info about Poker in casinos in Leeds or nearby?

For casinos best site is pokerineurope.com

Not sure about leeds but there is poker in Sheffield and Teeside.

Use Party, NL games there at low level are probably the best and being UK player doesnt matter, could go through Coral as they are a skin for Party but both you can cash in and out with switch. Laddies is ok for tournies but I havent played ring games there there doesnt seem a lot of game selection.

What site hmm well party is suppose to be the best but it starts at 50c/$1.

I cant say much about super micro limits, pacific is the loosest but you cant use poker tracker, the rest of the sites seem pretty crap for really low limits.

As far as books I just bought mine at Amazon (I live in Australia) and yeah they are a bit expensive and the delivery is slow but you still get the goods.

I decided to stick another £10 on ladbrokes for the time being and managed to turn it into $122 (approx £70) by the time I went to bed, so tonight I'll deposit some on Party and give it a go. I was playing one table of $0.25\$0.50.

I was very surprised how stupid some players on Ladbrokes are, I can only assume from what I have read here that Party is pretty much the same. Which is great news [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I can get most of the books I need from amazon.co.uk but they dont seem to have Hold Em Advanced so I guess I'll have to order it from the States.

I would HIGHLY suggest not getting Holdem for Advanced players quite yet or if you do, not reading it for a little while. The book is really just that, for "Advanced Players" and probably a fair bit above your head. It does not contain any "secrets" that make advanced players more money, but rather is full of suggestions and strategies for maximizing any and all small edges that you can. It's (HEFAP) focus is really at table limit's $10/20 and above. For a newbie, I am fairly certain that it would just confuse you. It is required reading at some point during your poker career but not for when you are starting out.

Holdem Poker (your first book) is a good start and I would HIGHLY (again) recommend either Winning Low Limit Hold-em by Lee Jones or Internet Hold-em by Mathew Hilger as absolutely essential (ie. bibles) reading for someone new to the on-line game. Both of these will do you fine through the Micro-levels up to and including $2/4. They both focus on the basics and will get you started on the road to being a solid and profitable on-line player.

Once you have a solid feel for either (or both) of these books and are consistantly winning at $1/$2 or $2/$4, I would recommend Small Stakes Holdem by Ed Miller. It is a more modern up to date version of HEFAP in my opinion and has as it's focus, the small stakes games ($1/2 up to $15/30).

I've just ordered the Lee Jones and Matthew Hilger books, as well as Super System and Theory Of Poker. I'll give Advanced a while, I cant really get hold of a copy easily anyway. A seller on amazon want £54.95 for the 1992 version. [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

Just a warning here -- turning $15ish into $120 playing .25/.5 in one day isn't exactly typical..210BB is an incredible winning streak. You're certainly off to a good start but realize a huge part of that win was probably luck [not to say you're not a winning player, but nobody is THAT much of a winning player over the longterm [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]].
