I like the payout except for the final table. That should of been something like this:
1st 800,000
2nd 475,000
3rd 300,000
4th 170,000
5th 140,000
6th 115,000
7th 100,000
8th 85,000
9th 70,000
10th 60,000

No.

I think a big part of the motivation behind this structure is to encourage people to buy in with cash the following year. With so many people making roughly the buyin, the message is "ooh, I got a free vacation!" (if you paid with cash this year) and/or "ooh, look honey, now we can come back next year!" (if you sattted in) rather than, "cool, i won $ at a big tournament".

So it seems like good business sense, but it makes the play of the tournament absolutely silly. Hanging on to make the $ is everything, then once you are in the $ it makes little difference where you place- all your motivation is to somehow make the final table. This encourages loose play in the early $ stages. Aggressive stacks can't bully everyone around b/c there is very little incentive to surviving and moving up a level. On the contrary, its best to get your chips in there and gambool it up, hoping to get a big enough stack for the final table and the big $. Seems to take some of the skill out of it, IMO.

If I busted out 200th, and got the cash offered, I'd be happy, of course. However, if I was given a choice before the tourny started of whether I wanted 10% of the field paid, or 25%, I would chose 10%. 1/3rd of a percent for 10th place is just wrong. (Don't know if this was 9 or 10 handed) Anybody at the final table should get at least 1% (which would have been just over $70K.

For something here that was more of a customer appreciation event by UB.

Fine, then market it as such. This was marketed as a $5k+ buyin WPT tourney. It's reasonable for anyone entering it to expect it to be structured like a real tournament, not a customer appreciation event.

It has already been pointed out that having lots of people get $7k in their UB accounts is probably better for UB than having people get paid a normal tourney structure payout.

Default No, it doesn\'t \"take the skill out\"

It just requires a different set of skills. It actually rewards players who think about things like this, and apply their findings to the play of the hands.

I think the prize structure is awful. The difference between 200th and 11th is absurdly small.
