I come right out and bet that flop. I want to win it right there with my middle pair on a rags board. I also want to hide my little monster draw in case he wants to play back.

I would bet the flop. And I'd like it if YOU were 3-betting w/ middle pair and the draw, but CALLING has GOT to be -EV in that situation.

That's what that guy gets though for limping w/ JJ.

Bet the flop, hope to be able to 3-bet, you are only behind to a set/2-pair. I think you're around 50/50 to top pair or an overpair (unless it's AA/KK/QQ, not sure). You want to see 2 more cards.

i was about 50.4% after the flop. i think my EV is positive, but it's much harder to call an all-in than to go all-in.

You were 50.4% in this hand, but way behind his range. Don't be results oriented.

You're charging yourself way too much for this draw. His reraise screams huge hand to me. You need to fold when he reraises. Your hand isn't good and you shouldn't be pushing this draw. You tried to take the lead in the hand, it didn't work. Let it go. There will be other spots.

Like someone else said, you are being too results orientated. Just because you won this time, doesn't mean you wont go bust most of the time.

Pick your spots.

I am inclined to agree with the other posters. It turned out that you are a tiny favorite over his actual holding, but a dog to his possible range of holdings once he puts in the huge reraise. You can probably find much better spots against someone willing to go bust for over 50 BB with an overpair or top pair in an unraised pot. If you could have made a reasonable all in move first, then go for it, but I don't want to be calling all in here.

if i have him on only 1 pair (not QQ, KK, AA), i'm slightly favored in the hand. considering there's already ~20 or so in the pot, don't i have the right pot odds to call?

You show tremendous strength with a check raise and then he reraises you a huge amount and you "put him on" something like AT?? Yes, his hand turned out to be quite weak for this action and you were a tiny favorite, but I think with this action you are more likely to get shown sets where you are getting basically 3 to 2 on a 2 to 1 shot.
