Default Table Image (for your first appearance at a particular card room)

Say that you're a decent player at the card room(s) you frequent, and have been crushing whatever games you've been sitting in (use your own standards of 'decent' and crushing').

Now let's say you make a trip to a different part of the country, with the express intent of playing poker in the casinos there. You consider it highly unlikely that anyone you've played with in your local cardrooms will show up at the places you're visiting. For example, you normally haunt the Taj, Trop, and Borgata in Atlantic City, but a business trip to Chicago gives you the opportunity to test the waters there.

Given these conditions, what kind of table image will you try to convey when you walk in and sit down at the 'away games'? Please cite any & all factors you wish, including but not limited to game selection, attire, attitude/demeanor, betting patterns, etc. Keep in mind that you'll be doing this with an eye towards maximizing your wins.

MY style, since its a buissness trip, dress like you're a buissnessmen. The good players will look at you as such, not a another good player because if u were a good player youd be a regular there. (their opinion) have good manner and eddict but not "too good". Im not saying pretend to not know the rules, but if u answer questions or stand out people will realize ur a regular player and veiw as a sharp TAG usually. Its good to have people respect ur reaises with a tight image but i dont like to let people know im a regular player.
On a seperate note i read an article the other day on Poker Camoflouge. Wear a WSOP shirt, we all know what we think when someone we ahve never seen before comes in to our local cardroom wearing one of those... tourists aka dead money. Good luck on the away games. YOu can try dif images at dif sessions at away games, see what works for you.

Remember, first of all, that your table image isn't what you intend to present to others, but what others at the table actually see in you.

If you know your way around a poker room, that will be obvious. Walking in wearing a WSOP T-shirt might make you look like one of those n00bs who wants to play the game they've been seeing on TV, but when you sit down and unconsciously start to one-handedly riffle a stack of chips, everyone will know you aren't a n00b.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You (say that you) are already doing well in Atlantic City. To the extent that all poker games are alike, what works in Atlantic City is going to work in Chicago. Your table image in Atlantic City is whatever it is. Do you know what it is, how it is that other players see you (as opposed to how you intend to present yourself)? Do you understand how your AC table image works to your advantage, and how it works to your disadvantage?

My advice to you is: take care of the sense of your game, and let the sounds take care of themselves.

Easy. Start out playing your game. If the players start adjusting to you, adjust accordingly.

You might start out in a game getting cards right off the bat. If you end up not showing down many, but raking lots of pots, you will look like an action player. Just like you could show up and end up folding for 2 hours str8 and now you look like a tightass.

You will least likely fool good players. They are more observant beyond just what you're wearing. Good players will figure your play out your playing style pretty quick. 2-3 orbits regardless of what you're wearing.

It's also good to get action on your good hands. Too much respect is unprofitable. I'd rather them disrespect my raises as much as possible. Makes the game easier to play.

Don't walk in, limp. Wear a wig with long, stringy, black hair. Eat a large plate of garlic pasta just before you arrive. Dress in bright red pants with a tank top, bravely showing a freshly-applied set of fake prison tatoos. Wear mirrorshades. Buy in with four times the reasonable amount. Someone will smile at you and then you utter the first line out of your mouth (in a deep, gurgly voice): "I will steal your soul!" Look over your shoulder toward the railing and shout "Hey! How much for the women?...How much for the little girl?"

That'll work.

It also helps if you mention "I ain't played poker since I got outta the joint" and "I'm used to betting with cigarettes, these funny looking little chips are hard to get used to."
