hmm I don't know the page number but it's in the loose games section. I think this example might tend more to a flop raise than the one in the book though because people are less likely to hold 5-outers

I think this is an easy flop raise for value. Gutshots are about neutral and 2-3 out hands aren't getting odds to call a raise here, so as far as protection is concerned I think we're okay.

My basic thought is this: If you raise now and encourage your opponents to call two cold on the flop and one on the turn, you are much more likely to encourage them to make mistakes (not to mention that I think in general by not killing your action you'll build a bigger pot).

Think FTOP: If you raise the flop and allow 2 bet cold-calls there, then calls on the turn, you may encourage opponents to make 1 or 2 FTOP mistakes. If you call now and raise later, you are going to basically allow your opponents to play the hand exactly correctly (they probably have odds to peel one, and will usually make a correct fold on the turn). If the pot were slightly bigger (and hence the flop call of two bets and turn call of 1 more likely to be generally correct), then I think waiting is okay. But in this situation it's a clear raise, in my opinion.

I'd raise the flop but I've never won a 9/18 hand so I'm probably wrong.
