I don't wanna get too ahead of myself. I 4-table 3/6NL 6max. So the plan is the same but to add 2 full ring 3/6NL tables. Eventually I'll be 80-tabling 50/100NL

Right now I can 6-table on my 1680x1050 LCD laptop. I haven't yet tried 8-tabling on this one screen.

I used to 8-table with my laptop and CRT but I recently lost my CRT (old bastard!)

I am really trying to evaluate the "EV" of dishing out the big bucks for a 2001FP or just getting a 17 " LCD and dealing with some overlap.

Any thoughts?

For a long time I was convinced that the 2001fp love fest on 2+2 was more about status than anything else. I finally broke down and got one, thinking that I'd use my old CRT along with it and 8 table.
Well, my 2001fp arrived and it is so great that I can't even bring myself to turn on the CRT. The thing is just great. I highly recommend it. If you can afford it, you will not be disappointed.

Appreciate the response.

The only other concern I have is the set up.

My laptop is on a smallish desk with two speaker columns about the size of the laptop right (a little taller) next to it... I have a shelf on top of my speakers... think I could stick the FP right above them and have a horizontal set up with my laptop?

sounds reasonable to me. The stand that it comes with is pretty versitile so you could come up with a lot of solutions as far as space is concerned.
