Not sure what the sentiment is among Iraqis regarding the death penalty in general. I'd be shocked if Iraqis weren't overwhelmingly in favor of a Saddam death penalty. Of course this is presuming he'll be convicted.

Put Dubbies and Sodom in an arena in Baghdad. Give 'em each a pint of whiskey, some PCP, and a stick. Shoot the winner.

It would be better for the US from a political standpoint if Saddam got a relatively light sentence that was acceptable to the Iraqi masses.

They asked this question of some "expert" on the Today Show this morning. He said that most Iraqis are in favor of the death penalty, and that they strongly believe that it prevents crimes. As a result, he indicated that for many of Iraq's citizens, the death penalty is the only option for Saddam. I guess we shall see.

No way. I at no time was in favor of invading Iraq, but clearly if Saddam were dead tomorrow it would be much better for us in every respect.

Default Appropriate punishment

I think we should "torture" him--put underwear on his head, pose him in sexually suggestive poses with other criminals and, to really give him what he deserves, bring in dogs to BARK at him!

I think there is a fairly sizeable chance (not huge or anything, but greater than 1%) Saddam could return to power someday. Which of course would just be the ultimate slap in our face.

At this point I think this is debatable. I hold no love for the man, would be fine with him getting whacked, but I don't know if it would do us any good. I doubt very much that a significant insurgency is trying to free him; I think they are of a different stripe. I also doubt that he has any sway as of now. I would be fine with putting him in jail in some high-security international prison.

Wouldn't look to good for W though, that's for sure. I think killing him would be good for the GOP. Probably wouldn't do much for me.
