Default Why do people play Omaha?

I have been tinkering with Omaha 8 for a little while and I think it's a great game. My main reason for picking it up is to learn a new game and I heard that it's even easier to beat bad players. Still trying to confirm the last part of that sentence.

My question is this. Why does the recreational player choose Omaha over Hold'em or Stud? It just seems odd to me that someone would gravitate to the game unless they were a serious player. It's not one of the games I was taught as a kid and it's almost never on TV. There are barely any books out on how to play it better.

The local indian casino here usually has 5-6 tables of Omaha running and they seem filled with casual players. I want to get in their head so I can crush the game. What is your opinion?

People come to this game because of all the pretty cards.

They like finishing a hand with a straight or a flush or a straight flush, more than having top pair top kicker.

Problem is...their straight or flush isn't always the best hand....luckily for us.

Because they get tired of holdem, your question would apply to any table game against the house no? Why would anyone with a brain play let it ride? or 3 card poker? they know they are going to lose and know very little if anything about strategy concerning those games no? Also people get burned out on holdem, I know thats why I started playing omaha, I had played a lot of holdem tourneys and was looking for something to kick back with and maybe not be so serious about.

When you've lost all your money, it sounds better if your full house lost to another full house than say in holdem where your no pair, got beat by pocket 6's.
Omaha makes for great storytelling and lots of action.

Omaha is a flop game, and stud is not...so it's a bit closer to holdem.

Stud is also harder to play multitable on line since you must remember more cards.

I can only speak for myself
1. Increase overall poker skill
2. A break from Hold'em
3. Good for bonus whoring
4. Easy to multi-table and make a slight profit

Often times a loser in hold 'em will play 08 for a change and luck into a winning session. Now that person considers himself an "omaha player" and proceeds to lose his money at the 08 tables instead.

Also, rocks love 08 because playing overly tight doesn't hurt you as much as in other games, so they tend to gravitate to the game.
