Default Troop Pullout Vote

Looks like they are going to vote on this tonight...

Anyone think this resolution may pass?

It will fail. The Repubs made a good move here. The best the dems can do it say that the resolution is a republican one and not what Cong. Murtha suggested. Focus on making it clear that this is a republican resolution and that it is not at all similar to Murtha's idea. Follow it up with "I would gladly vote yes on Murtha's amendment that says.... and hope we get a chance to very soon" They must gain distance between the republican amendment and what Murtha actually proposed.

Of course it will fail.

It's a Republican "rewrite" of Murtha's bill that is specifically designed to be unacceptable.

It's a political propaganda ploy, and is not worthy of being treated as anything more.

And the Democratic bill wasn't politics either? It's all a political game.

Trust me when I say the House Repulbicans will be screaming for Bush to make a substantial troop withdrawl right before the 2006 elections.
Most politcal columnists are already predicting it to happen with about 40 to 50,000 being brought back home.

Is the war a political game? If not, why do you think the opposition to it is?

There are elections in Iraq next month. The Republican calls for "stand-down" will happen soon thereafter.

Default I promise I\'ll pull out before anything bad happens

Lost among the noise and the clutter in Washington, and while the politicians are jockeying for advantage over the fates of thousands of young men and women in Iraq, not to mention the hapless Iraqis themselves, the news is that, when it comes down to sending home American troops, the Iraqi Army is simply not getting ready, any time soon!

There's an interesting article on the very subject in the latest Atlantic : "Why Iraq Has No Army"

Any time 99.26% of the congress agrees on something, it's 99.26% sure we're getting hosed.

Yes, this is the fundamental problem.
