Default The best game is...

The best game to be playing in is loose passive and the worst game to be playing in is tight aggressive but where do loose aggressive and tight passive games rank in the hierarchy of games to play in?

I think it depends on your personality type and bankroll. If you can handle the swings loose aggressive games are possibly the most profitable. The advantage of tight passive games is you always know where you're at so the variance can be quite low in these games.

That's not necessarily the case. In a stud game with at least a moderate ante, tight games are often more profitable than loose games. And in no-limit holdem, aggressive games are often more profitable than passive games.

If you're strictly talking limit holdem, tight-passive games are usually better than loose-aggressive, because your variance is a lot lower, and since you generally know where you stand you have a lot more control. Loose-aggressive you win larger pots, but you're bluffed out a lot more, and it costs you a lot more to play in most situations.

Online this is important to consider, since a larger pot size doesn't always mean a more profitable game.

For me, the ideal holdem game would contain a mix of player types. In a 10 handed game, I would like to see 7 or 8 players who play loose passive pre-flop and weak tight post-flop, and 1 or 2 absolutely clueless calling stations. This type of game is a lot lower variance than a game with everybody calling all the way to the river. The first type of player is pretty common. They see way too many flops, contributing dead money to the pot most of the time. They typically don't raise preflop without a big pocket pair AK, or maybe AQ, so you can get out of their way when they do raise. One or two post-flop calling stations will pay off your good hands. More than this will build big pots, but the frequent draw-outs really increase the variance.

A couple of thoughts....
Few games will fall into any one category - you usually have a mixture of players. Sometimes, there will be more of one player type than another, but you will rarely find a game that is 100% of one type. If you do, players within that class will differ into being more or less aggressive than the others, etc. My point is, that you need to focus on tendencies of individual players, not the "table" as a whole.

As previously stated, given the two choices you offer, it would depend on your personality. I'm pretty tight (and not aggressive enough yet) so my preference would be the tight passive - I'll have a real good idea of what is going on around me and be able to steal a few more pots than usual. The pots won't be as big, but I'll get more of them.
