Default blackjack bankroll

ive heard that counters have a .5 edge. i dont know how many hands are dealt per hour on average at a blackjack table, so assuming that i want to make $50/hr how much do i have to wager as my standard bet?

what bankroll do i need to have for betting at this standard?

not really... persay. ive been kind of fascinated by blackjack and tournament betting strategies lately. ive read 15 poker books and any new ones i read just seem to be redundant. i want to expand my knowledge of gambling as a whole, and i feel that learning anything pertaining to gambling would certainly help my poker. i just bought "The Zen of Gambling" by Wayne Allen Root today at BN because it looked so intriguing. hes a professional sports bettor, but the book is more about ev concepts in a macro perspective. so far im quite looking forward to getting into it. i have no plans whatsoever to switch my main source of income from poker to blackjack, but would certainly be interested in learning blackjack on the side. it would be nice to play in some blackjack tournaments, or table games when i get a little bored of playing poker now and then.

have i played with you at turning stone before?

I played blackjack for a living in your very own casino for close to 4 years back in the 90s.
I'll trade you some of my blackjack knowledge for some of your poker knowledge next time Im over there.....Deal?

Well, its hard to give you a precise answer without knowing the game and conditions you'll be playing under. Single deck, Doulble deck, 6 or 8 decker? Penetration, your tolerance to risk? The system you use?

But to give you an idea, I'll give you the expectation from the game I normally play.

2 decks with aprox. 65% pen using KO count. I spread 1-10 units.

Expectation: 3.91 units/100 hands. Units of Std Dev per 100 hands = 48.97!(BJ can be brutal) With a 1000 unit BR you get a ROR of 3.85% For $50/hr, for this game you need a base unit of about $12.70. Ofcourse thats not realistic, so say $15, spreading 15-150, with a 15k BR.

Couple of notes. Just like poker, game selection is critical. 100 hands per hour would be under optimal conditions with a fast dealer and maybe 1 other player. Also penetration is very important. If the pen goes down to 55-60%, your expection goes down and your ROR goes up.

Good luck.

Thats really slow, 1-2 players covering the hole table a fast dealer would make 120 initial deals easy. Never been to america but I hurd that u have the worse of all dealers. No offence!
