I will be entertained by "Tilt," no matter now cheesy the dialogue is. I mean, I still watch reruns of Full House and Family Matters. Stuff like is just meant to be entertainment, don't get angry because of minimal poker content.

Also, it will surely provide tons of one-liners for comedic relief during your home game! You can show up to your next home game as The Matador, and the laughs will never stop.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if "Tilt" is anything like "Lucky" was, the show will be awesome.

I too had higher hopes for this show but after watching the promo bit last nite thought it could be way over the top goofy and just to quote macmanus "disrespecting the game"...ha ha....but I wanted to put in a good word for one of the actors that I have hopes for, the guy playing the newbie is Chris Bauer who was AWESOME on season 2 of The Wire on HBO as Frank Sobotka, so I got big hopes for his character at least...I too like Madsen...the others look like they didn't get their audition for NBC's Las Vegas and their resumes got passed over to ESPN.
my 4 cents.

It has nothing to do with "i'm too good a poker-player to like it".

Bad writing is simply bad writing and it looks like this show has plenty of that.

Rounders was not the end-all-be-all of poker-accuracy or knowledge. Yet it was terrific. And I'll go so far to say that it wasn't just the acting but rather the writing that made it so good. In other words, I think it still could have been good even without Damon, Norton, Malkovic, Turturro Landau. Those guys certainly didn't hurt of course....but I can envision just reading the script and being happy with it....and I can just as easily imagine just reading the scripts to Tilt and thinking "this is awful."

If Damon, Norton and company were the actors in Tilt they still couldn't save it from how dreadfully bad it looks.

I'm more than willing to suspend my reality in the name of entertainment....but some shows are just plain stupid and this looks like one of them unfortunately.

I think that someone who knows absolutely nothing about poker can like Rounders for how intelligent it is....and is still likely to find Tilt to be really idiotic.

If the first episode proves me wrong i will be VERY happy because I am really rooting for this show to work. Maybe the first episode is stupid but then the show will get stronger as they continue (which has been known to happen).

I never was a huge fan of Rounders, but this show seems destined to make Rounders look like Citizen Kane. Hell, it may even make Lucky look like Citizen Kane.

I'm watching the preview now on Tivo, and it's just laughable.

"I'm so good, I've picked up a tell on your betting pattern, so rather than keep quiet about it and let you keep bluffing off your chips, I'm going to tell you it right to your face while I raise you and carelessly splash the pot while doing so. Just don't make fun of my sweater or I might lunge across the table and start punching like that other guy."

Yeah, right, these guys are totally believable high-stakes pros.

That's kind of funny...because I was never a huge fan of Citizen Kane!! (I always just HAD to take the contrarian view in my film-studies classes).

I think the whole 'betting pattern' and chest-thumping 'i'm a bad-ass' stuff looks just as ridiculous to those who have never stepped foot into a casino as it does to those who have played a little or a lot of poker before.

Then again....I'm taking a quick vacation to New Orleans right now....and there are various announcements on TV and radio as to which roads they are closing from day-to-day for a film they are making down here....

Specifically, the movie is....get this....
The Dukes of Hazzard movie!!

so I guess that could serve as a reminder that none of us really have the market cornered on exactly what the mass-public will eat up. That TV-show got terrific ratings for a few years...and the movie will probably make a few hundred-million bucks at the box-office for all I know.
Talk about your cinematic masterpieces!!

All the actors look like they have no idea what they are doing. Madsen might be ok but he's better playing the bad guy, and he even said he wants to steer clear of villain roles. The guy who plays Eddie is just a cardboard cutout. I think he's reading his lines off cue cards. The black guy is horrendous too, and I think it's a shame that they are apparently going to make him into your typical thug character who just happens to be good at poker.

Rounders was special because the actors were all top notch. The writing wasn't anything special but the actors were able to convey a sense that this was real. Damon's bantering at the cigar shop didn't seem forced like the moronic talk between Eddie and the guy who figured him out or whatever.

But hey, I can guarantee you that the longer this show lasts, the more fish there will be. I know nobody here minds that.

yeah unfortunately its looking pretty bad

im sure it wont be as bad as Shade with jamie fox and sly stallone, that [censored] was just amazingly atrocious.

apparently no one on the set or involved in the production even realized that when someone bets more chips than his opponent has, that the opponent does not have to put his watch or house lease up..... dumbasses

what made rounders great was the authentic non corny feel that it gave, and ed norton's awesome delivery of lines

anyways ive been waiting for this series for a long time, and am going to give it a try... when Im disappointed I know exactly whats going to make me feel better...

rolled up aces over kings
