Crazy story. I like the part where they found him next to a deer carcass recently eaten by a lion.

The woman was so upset she forgot she was carrying a cell phone and ran all the way down the mountain trail to the Paso Picacho campground across state Route 79, where she found an employee who called park rangers.

That is odd.

Eventually, Olson was drugged to prepare him for extraction because he wouldn't stop flailing his arms and fighting with his rescuers, rangers said.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why would he do this?

Authorities said Olson had been drinking beer – empty beer cans and a set of bongo drums were found near the crest of the mountain – and then "he went over the side."

He was probably suffering from dementia due to massive head trauma or something like that.

Something bothers me. You can't leave a man to die on the side of the mountian, but it it really worth risking the lives of all the men who tried to rescue him in order to save him? Sounds like he is going to die/be a vegetable anyway, and the rescue could have killed everyone involved.
