88...could be boring. Looking for input from n00bs
This will be an active post, with street by street action. Please comment on all streets if you have time for discussion.
So, here's the deal. UTG+1 is really loose (~70 VPIP). He's aggressive preflop, and somewhat passive postflop (wouldn't bet a draw for ex.) MP1 is a NULL player for 15 hands. (0/0/0) MP3 is a LPP with a tendency to call WAY too much postflop (like undercards and a BDSD). I am not going to divulge my thoughts just yet. I would like to see people's analyses first (lotsa n00bs please). Grunch it. (it doesn't matter that it's 2/4...it was playing like 1/2 anyways) Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 raises, 1 fold, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls. Flop: (12.50 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 players) Hero...? |

Re: 88...could be boring. Looking for input from n00bs
bets/raises... I was thinking Check/Raise, but the other players probably won't bet a flop like this, most of them are passive postflop, and we don't know enough about MP1. All in all, nobody will take the bait so just play it straightfoward.
EDIT - opps! forgot PF. The call is kosher, 1 in 8 to flop a set, and you were getting like 1 in 10.5. Plus even w/o a set, 88 is a nice hand to stand up by itself. I personally prefer not to raise because middle to high poket pairs are a bit of a problem hand for me |

Re: 88...could be boring. Looking for input from n00bs
Check it. Assuming that the passive players will call anyway (and given the size of the pot, it wouldn't be incorrect for them to call with gutshots), a bet doesn't accomplish very much. Checkraise MP1's bet to knock out UTG if possible.
However, if one of the passive players bets, I would just call. Let me elaborate before I get flamed: If one of the super passive players who is unlikely to semi bluff bets, it probably means a straight. Given that I'm most likely behind, but will be far ahead if the board pairs, my equity isn't particularly sensitive to the number of players in the pot. I'll win if I fill up, and lose if I don't. Thus, I wouldn't mind callers behind me because they'll pay me off if I do infact fill up. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm gunna bet here with the intent of re-raising if somebody follows up with a raise. The set is strong and is most likely the best hand. The 3-straight would make me cautious though and I would be prepared to fold if the turn was especially scarry (4 to a straight) and somebody else was betting hard. |

Re: 88...could be boring. Looking for input from n00bs
you know that it depends on how many people are still in on the turn :P. If it's 1, i'm calling, if i have the equity edge, of course i'm raising.

Anyways, I got so excited about the flopped set, that I did not take into consideration the coordination of the board when I was making my flop decision. I think that betting and 3-betting here is the way to go.
