Default Soda + Laptop... How screwed am I?

I was casually playing on my laptop, home for Thankgiving and spilled half of a glass of Hawaiian Punch + 7-UP on the keyboard of the laptop. I would assume only an ounce actually went into the keyboard, the rest on the desk, floor, etc.

I immediately turned off the laptop, it shut down fine. I turned it upside and had the liquid pour out of it. I allowed it to dry all night with a fan blowing on it upside down.

It turned on today. YAY! The keyboard of the laptop works, but it is ruined. I typically use the laptop at school as a desktop and have a 2001FP running thru it as well as a normal keyboard.

It has been on at school running for two hours right now. I turned it on before I left and it ran for half an hour before I packed up to go back to school.

How screwed am I? I do have insurance on it, through the school, and it does cover damage. I plan to call the insurance company tomorrow and ask them how they want to proceed.

My question to you is... am I out of the woods yet?

That article says "wet cotton" or something. I would use "rubbing alcohol", isopropyl not witch hazel or whatever, to clean any sticky messes that are left. I would also try to use something that won't leave too much lint to do it with.

So, I guess you mean the keyboard is sticky? I've used alcohol in the past to clean up laptops that had juice spilled on them. Alcohol dries quickly, so you don't have to worry about it leaving any residue. Just make sure the battery is disconnected before you try the procedure

I spilled cough syrup on my IPOD, probably the only thing stickier than Hawaiin Punch. Had to send it in to a pro (brokenipods.com)....GL
