Shuffle Macnines Going into Top Section at Commerce
Reports are that the transmutation started today (Monday) and will take three days. Hopefully it will help alleviate dealer abuse.

Hopefully it will help alleviate dealer abuse. [/ QUOTE ] haha. Our most notorious dealer abuser at Bay101 now blames the dealers for not scrambling the cards properly before inserting the deck in the machine. I predict the same at the Commerce. Hopefully they will make it against the rules for dealers to scramble. |

Re: Shuffle Macnines Going into Top Section at Commerce
Strange as it may seem, I think that having an automatic shuffler at a table *does* alleviate dealer abuse. People complain less about the dealer, and it all but puts an end to asking to change the deck.
One drawback is that people now can't find as much to complain about, so when complainers have a run of bad luck, they just go directly to asking for a new setup. |

a littel off topic. but how much does having automatic shufflers speed up the game, if at all? assuming the typical rate would be 25-35 hands/hr

Re: Shuffle Macnines Going into Top Section at Commerce
That's going to vary place to place and dealer to dealer... but as a rough estimate... how long does the shuffle take? If it's 15 seconds longer than pushing a button and grabbing a new deck, that's time to deal 3 or 4 extra hands an hour.
The cards also last much longer - shuffles are very destructive, especially the cards are forcefully bridged and snapped together after each riffle. That literally scrapes the spots off them. The shuffling machines let the cards fall into place without ramming them together. |

We have the machines in 1/3 of our tables. It does cut down on dealer abuse, but there are the folks that MUST find something to bitch about reagardless - they say things like "Sure you don't shuffle the cards, but you cut them when they come out of the machine.". I'm in favor of having the players cut the deck when it comes out. Like they do in blackjack. Let the player with the button cut. Probably slow the game up, though.

Because of all the new set-up requests, Commerce now only allows one every so often, I think every hour.

Re: Shuffle Macnines Going into Top Section at Commerce
In my brief experience at Commerce I think there was more dealer abuse at 9/18 (machine) than at 20/40 (no machine) and an equal number of requests for thorough scrambles.

I haven't noticed any difference at the differents stakes. In the top section, if there's any objection, only the button can request a scramble.
