LA Poker
Going to LA for business next month and looking for a game. Bike or Commerce? Which has more tables (10/20 to 20/40 range)? Which has fisher games? Anywhere else to consider? How are the rooms at the Commerce?

Re: LA Poker
The Bike has a better athmosphere, the Commerece has more 'action asians'. Check out HollyWood Park if you get the chance.

Re: LA Poker
Rooms at the Commerce are fine, nothing special, but not terrible. They should have a bunch of 9-18 and 20-40 games going, with a couple of 15-30s. You should be pleased by the fishiness in any of those games.

[/ QUOTE ] My last two trips to the Commerce I've had to leave the 20-40 game and go play $5000 buy-in no-limit since it's impossible to beat the bad players in the 20-40 games. I think next trip I'll just stick to the 100-200 limit games. You know what they say, it's impossible to win when everyone is calling down everything all the way to the river - your hands never hold up. |

Re: LA Poker
At Commerce, there's no 10-20. They play 9-18 and then the next biggest game is 15-30. There are usually more 20-40 games than 15-30 games. If you play 9-18, you have to pay for food. At 15-30 and up, the food is free. One disadvantage is that the 9-18 games are in a totally separate room, a fair walk away from the bigger games, so they're impossible to "eyeball."
All who I know who have stayed at the hotel at Commerce say the rooms are standard, no better, no worse. If you have only one night to play, go to Commerce. |

Re: LA Poker
I'm no expert as I've only been to the Commerce, but like you I'm an out-of-towner. I can recommend the place hugely, it was an absolute unprecedented joy to see early position raises being cold-called by six or seven people. (I was only playing 4-8, however.)
I found the casino as a whole to be fine, and admirably cards-focused. My previous live play experience in the US was Vegas (Bellagio, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Excalibur) and this left Vegas for dust (better games, more games). Have fun. |

Commerece has more 'action asians'. [/ QUOTE ]No kidding. It's amazing how a couple of those guys at the table can totally change the game. It's infectious. Like, it's not uncommon to see 7 players call a cap pre-flop. Trouble is, play is excruciatingly slow. Good $100 NL at Hollywood. |
