MTT - Did I play this one wrong?

Hi! I just went out of a 5$ MTT, and I wonder how I should have played the last hand. About half an hour into the game, blinds are at 25-50, about 400 players left

I'm in the BB with about 1900 in chips
two people in MP calls and SB completes
I have [10c, 4c] and check.

flop
[10s,6s, 9h]
SB check, I bet around 1/2 the pot
One person in middlepos minraises me(his stack covering just covering me, no tells), the rest fold.
I call the raise.

turn

I hit two pairs, but a scary board. I therefore bet the pot, about 800. He reraises me all in, and I call the last 800.

He shows [10d,6d] and takes the pot.

what could I have done to get away from this hand? How would you guys play it?

I went broke right alongside you on this one. Not much you can do here, besides fold to the flop minraise, and it takes a strong read for me to be able to do that.

One way you could have won this...raise pre-flop. Yup, not necessarily a good thing with T4, but it's the only way you could have won this hand, because your play was fine. I would have pushed on the turn, and gone broke quicker than you, but otherwise, I'd have likely played it the same.

Arguments for: Don't allow limpers; misinforms the others on your hand; chance to take it down now.
Arguments against: This is a spectacularly bad hand to raise with, and you'll play out of position the rest of the way.

I agree. Someone pointed out that almost all bad beat stories start; "I was in the big blind..."
I'd probably have put him on face 10 and bet out big on the turn and lost all my chips.
However, analysing the hand afterwards, I would have realised that I should have folded to the re-raise and should have made a smaller bet on the turn. The board is scarey: he's either got me beat with the str8 (the big bet because he doesn't like the flush draw) or trips or semi-bluffing the flush. It's not really worth busting out when the best you can hope is that he has a face and a ten and that he doesn't call and get a lucky river.
So, in my view, unlucky for players of our talent but a good player is not busting out with that hand. The turn bet should be enough for value if you've got the best hand but not so much that you can't get away from it if it becomes clear that you're beat.
