Default Seems like you guys spend more time talking about money than poker

My friend, said I should come here to talk about poker, that it was a good site to get feedback from other players. So far I think I've asked 2 or 3 questions and no one has been able to provide any real information to my questions.

Most of the posts on here have to do with players dreaming about how much money they'll make next year, what the tax ramifications are, and in general just patting each other on the back for being oh wise poker players,

Just a bit of advice, isn't there a famous saying about not counting your chickens before they hatch? Maybe you should spend more time focusing on poker and less time on your winnings, and in the end you'll see you've actually been focused on your winnings the correct way.

Later, gotta find the answers to some tough poker questions, pretty sure no one on here knows or if they did they wouldn't tell me.

Maybe try the strategy forums? General Hold'em is the wrong place for the information you seek.

I appreciate everyone's feedback, First of let me say there are so many tabs on the left side of this website (35 or so) that it's hard to nail down exactly which one I should post in, I guess I'll try the Small stakes no limit and pot limit forum from now on.

Secondly, in response to Dankhank's post My Quote "isn't there a famous saying about counting your chickens before they hatch?" DankHank "Yea, but we are counting our chickens after they hatched" Oh really? I guess that depends on your goals as a poker player, DankHank have I seen you on ESPN playing poker, or on the travel channel playing poker on the WPT or on Poker Superstars, or Ultimate Poker Challenge? I don't remember hearing your name when I've been watching those events. Maybe you have a comfortable living playing online and maybe that's nice for you, but that's not my goal

My goal is to play in the big events, and I don't think I'm going to get there by once I've gained a comfortable living from playing poker sitting back and counting up all my money, patting myself on the back, talking about TAXES????? Who gives a bleep!, just play poker, do you think that when Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, or any poker pro got to the point you are at now, they started thiking about taxes and asking questions like, can you really make $100,000 a year online playing poker? I know they didn't, they got to playing poker all they could and learning more and more and talking about POKER (not money) and the money took care of itself, That's my only point. So if you are comfortable at $100,000 good for you. But for others like I mentioned I'm sure they were not comfortable they probably went bust a few times with that money trying to make more and play higher stakes and get BETTER, and eventually they did. And you won't get there by patting yourself on the back so much for being a winning player. Okay so you win, on what level???

I'm coming here to learn all I can to be a winning player, be a GREAT player, in 2 years I want to be in the WSOP (2007), in 5 years I want to make the money and after that who knows, but I know I will never stop feeling like I have more to learn and I won't stop to spend the majority of my time counting money, I don't do that when I leave the Casino, I don't worry about money I worry about poker, I think maybe you should too

As for the Questions I asked, yes you all did do a fantastic job of answering them, I apologize at the time of my post I had not seen those responses so I was frustrated a bit. I got some different answers, but that's good gives me more to think about and chew. Thank you all for responding. And also I didn't mean to be confrontial, I was so I apologize I meant maybe to give you guys a kick in the pants, get a little motivated and thirsty again, I'll admit it I suck right now, I'd even classify myself as a fish still.

Last night I left Winstar with $220 profit, but that could have easily been $220 loss. But I did alot of things you're suppose to do right playing poker. I stole the blinds from position several times, I reraised all in on a semi-bluff and got a guy to fold Kings (which were an overpair to the board, J,9,8) I made a reraise and than folded when i noticed the guy's hands who reraised me all in were shaking like a wet dog, he turned over Aces (and he had Aces 3 of the last 6 hands, I think he got some kind of pleasure showing them) I did other things right, mostly played well excepts for two bad calls. I'm not trying to pat myself on the back I suck. I'm down $1,200 from when I started playing poker 7 months ago, but I'm getting better and I play 30-40 hours week whenever I can, whenever I'm not at work. And if you get too comfortable and too lazy counting your money, I'll surpass you, Good luck ya'll

Perhaps his goals are not the same as yours. Also his real name is probably not DankHank.

But you're probably right. If he hasn't won the WSOP then he shouldn't ever think or write about anything that doesn't put him in the money next year. Even if that means going to jail in 3 years for tax evasion, [censored] it, you aren't going to win the WSOP if you spend 2 hours thinking about taxes! It takes dedication, baby!

I'm no pro by any means, but if I were, this would be the time of year that I am worrying about taxes. Just like any other profession, you tend to start thinking about taxes right around now. Who cares if they are posting it on this forum or not? This is after all a poker forum where a good percentage of the posters play poker for a living. You can't just tell them to not worry about taxes and just worry about the game. Thats like telling a plumber to not worry about filing taxes for his business and just concentrate on his love for chasing doo doo.

In all seriousness, this isn't healthy or productive behaviour. I'd reccomend a new hobby as you are almost certainly delusional.
