Default Game 1 Thoughts

Mussina looked pretty good. Pretty good command, made good pitches when he had to. The Angels did hit some balls hard that were outs (against Gordon and Rivera too).

I liked taking Mussina out when Torre did. Mussina was at 97 pitches, outs are commodities in the post-season, let Leiter go after the lefties. Good job by Jeter in selling his "tag" on Vlad.

Cano got the big hit, but you saw in the 9th what a liability he is, at this stage in his career, at second base. Looks like he wasn't even going to throw the ball to first on Molina's ground-out, and then made a bad throw. And of course he could have opened his eyes on Erstad's ball.

Kind of a throw-back game to the Yankee teams of 1996-2000: low-scoring with good pitching. Colon just got a little bit too much of the plate in the early innings. Anderson might have caught Cano's ball, he kind of circled back to it. He's never been a great fielder. [Scioscia just said he ran a good route, but watch the replay and he goes sideways before he goes back and kind of circles back.]

Well they did tag the leading cy young candidate for 4 runs, i'll put that in a different perspective.

I agree about moose, i didnt like it when it happened but in hindsight it was the right move. he got it done and had some really good pitches, that was as much as anyone could expect from someone who was not there at all during his last start.

as for cano, i definitely agree that he is very weak late in games defensively but that was not an easy play. i want to see another replay before I make up my mind over whether it was a really hard play or not. as for the hit, gotta love it. that ball was well hit and those balls arent easy to track, nobody just rans a perfect line. i havent seen the replay, but i think you may be taking a little too much away from cano.
