Default Please help me settle a football argument-Colts

Big argument at work today. You know that the colts have some salary cap issues right now. If you had to decide, who would you keep? Marvin Harrison or Ed. James?

Thanks,

Indy

Given that I had to keep one or the other, I would keep Harrison. James has had a lot of carries and a lot of hits, and I think that makes him the riskier of the two.

I think it is possible that Indy doesn't re-sign either at the end of the season.

Harrison is 6 years older than Edge. He is arguably not even the best receiver on the team at this point and will almost certainly not be going forward.

Edge. A shorter deal though, as RBs have a short shelf life. With their D doing so well, I could see them taking a shot at a WR in the draft. No better way to develop a WR than to build his confidence with lots of TD catches from Manning. (well, it works in Madden)

RBs are done at 30. WRs (especially technicially superior WRs like Harrison) can go to 34+. They will both stop being effective at about the same time.

Harrison is BY FAR the best WR on the Colts. In 2004, he still led the team in receptions and TDs. This after a 2003 in which he was by far the leader in all receiving categories, and a 2002 in which he shattered the single-season reception record. In 2004, he was always drawing the best and most attention from opposing DBs, and he still led the team statisically. Drawing the conclusion you did from the 2004 stats would be like saying Deion might not have been the best CB on the 1996 Cowboys because he only had two picks.

Harrison has three or four more 1,000-yard, 10-TD seasons in him.

I'm glad you are able to psychicly determine how I arrived at my conclusion. And completely disregard that I mentioned it was arguable. Well done, good post!

Refute what? That Harrison is BY FAR the best receiver on the Colts right now? I don't really think I need to, it's a ridiculous statement. It's obvious that Wayne is at worst a step behind. But he's really not. At 6 years younger, if you'd rather have Harrison, you're insane.

Look at the yards per catch, targets, everything except for TDs over the past year and a half. Watch them play, Wayne is far more explosive, his routes are near as precise. Harrison doesn't draw double coverage anymore, and there are few shutdown corners in the league, so there is no reason that their stats would be equal and Manning would look for them equally unless they are on par with each other. Factor in upside and I'll take Wayne in a second from this point forward.

Congrats on your successful baiting.
